Rock music is awesome, here's another list for my comprehensive Letterboxd music list this time containing a heap of rock…. I like music, you know? As I watched this film, I couldn't help but feel warm feelings and enjoy the collected memories of a musical hero, even as the interviews became repetitious. A thoughtful respectful account of the artist's work and early years. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
From a completely clinical standpoint, it’s not even technically good.
Thinking about it brings to mind the “i miss dead people” fb group that I’m pretty sure started out as an Elliott Smith fan page. By threading the music of Elliott Smith through the dense, yet often isolating landscapes of the three major cities he lived in, Heaven Adores You presents a visual journey and an earnest review of the singer's prolific songwriting and the impact it continues to have.

A great retrospective on a musician who died in his prime. Heaven Adores You is an intimate, meditative inquiry into the life and music of Elliott Smith.
But nope, not here. Here's the plot: "Heaven Adores You is an intimate, meditative inquiry into the life and music of Elliott Smith.
It didn't really go above and beyond or anything but it was a perfectly adequate presentation.
'YoYo.....' is not a bootleg DVD.
The documentary did it's job telling his life story in a genuine and respectful way, I loved learning about his life and I'm glad i did.
Elliott era demasiado especial, demasiado honesto, demasiado sensible, demasiado bueno para este mundo horrible.
“Heaven Adores You” describes his musical active years, with testimonies of family members, friends, industry people, fans and people who were touched by Elliott’s art somehow. Very beautiful, informative, and insightful documentary. Really just a sweet documentary and tribute to one of the greatest artists of all time.
Maybe, but that’s scant consolation for the loss, or for how the culture becomes a little lousier without a supply of their new work.
Heaven Adores You tracks Smith's rise to fame, as told by friends, colleagues and fellow musicians.
A wonderful addition to the body of knowledge about this talented and elusive artist. After I watched this I was inspired to revisit a wonderful DVD of Elliott performing in Seattle in 1999,titled 'YoYo a GoGo'. The first song I ever heard by him was Waltz no.
Also, it fixated on his Oscar performance/nomination which, to me, was kind of pointless without contextualizing why it was so weirdly horrible for him (beyond “oh he was so introverted and not meant for fame”). This examines his life and his music so well through outtakes, interviews, musical appearances, friends, family, and band members.
I could spend hours just listening to people like Autumn de Wilde or Jon Brion talk about Elliott, but having the relationship to his music that I do, part of me wishes that I had never watched this at all. Curious to know what the movie's about? But the biography's on Elliott do... and I'd be kidding if I didn't say that stuff wasn't more entertaining and more-worthwhile of someone's time than many of the un-eventful encounters in this movie. Focused a bit heavy on his hundred of hip friends basically talking about how he had no friends. Rentals include 30 days to start watching this video and 48 hours to finish once started. He was so beloved by us all.
Figure 8 is my favorite album of his, and it sucks that it was his last (not including the posthumously released FABOAH). Stream & Watch Online Powered by JustWatch. It is beautifully shot with Smith's songs perfectly complementing the urban scenery that frequently make up the film.
All the archival footage has been available online for some time. I don't know why as it is pro-shot and as I stated,it is a wonderful snapshot of E.Smith.
